I have a friend that is having a bad time. She has already relapsed and is asking me for help. I am just back home from treatment myself last night. I have had a long day of being around the normal world myself today. Their is no danger of relapse for me right now and I want to be there for her if I can. Am I just setting myself up for a fall?
In my experience I have seen the best results when I refer people back to their sponsors no matter how good of friends I a with them. Usually if I get involved it ends up being a mess. I always offer for them to go to a meeting with me. In new sobriety I was so fragile so putting myself in that situation would have been dangerous FOR ME. I don’t know your situation but for me I could not have been in that situation. I have really tried to stick as close to the program as possible so I know I’m doing the next right thing. Normally if I get a pit in my stomach that I’m not doing the right thing I know I’m doing MY will and not God’s. Hope this helps! Hope they can reach out to a sponsor or some other fellowship that have more sobriety time! 🙂 Have a great day!
Thanks Heidi that does help. I did speak with her sponsor and was able to get some incite and the help that she needed. I have been able to help were I could without risking my sobriety with help from others.
