St. Tammany sheriff: Three arrested after stealing ammunition to support heroin addiction

guns-drugsCOVINGTON, La. —Three people stole large amounts of ammunition to support a drug addiction, the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office said.

Employees at the Covington Academy Sports and Outdoors store reported the theft of several boxes of ammunition on March 3. The suspect, later identified by the Sheriff’s Office as 29-year-old Eric David Burton, fled the store in a green Volkswagen with packing tape over the rear passenger window, witnesses said.

While investigating the theft in Covington, detectives learned that a large amount of ammunition had been reported stolen from the Slidell Academy Sports and Outdoors store.

The stolen ammunition was found at pawn shops in the area, authorities said.

Two women, 23-year-old Carleigh K. Polk and 22-year-old Catalina Karma Douglas, were arrested in connection with the thefts.

Authorities said all three confessed to stealing the ammo to support a heroin addiction. Read more…
