After a drunken fiasco at a Broadway show in New York, the star is attempting to transform himself once again. But will it work this time?
After Shia LeBeouf’s recent drunken antics at a Broadway show that ended with the actor being led away in handcuffs, the Transformers star has allegedlychecked himself into a Hollywood rehab.
Last week, LeBeouf had a bit too much to drink at the Broadway production of Cabaret. Witnesses claimed that he was holding his hands in the air and bobbing his head to every musical number, yelling “Yeeeaahh!” at the more risque parts of the show. He also allegedly told a pair of women to “watch my shit” so he could hit the bar before returning with souvenir mugs filled with cocktails.
When asked to leave because of his disruptive behavior, LeBeouf went into meltdown mode and screamed at his arresting officers, “Do you know my life? Do you know who the fuck I am? Do you know who I am?”
LeBeouf has since been spotted in Los Angeles carrying the big blue Alcoholics Anonymous book, also known as the “Big Book” in AA parlance. The photographer following LeBeouf commented that the star seemed repentant. “Shia was nervous; he didn’t look good all morning. He was looking down and wasn’t even talking to his driver,” the photographer said. “It looked like he didn’t want to do it, but he knew he had to.”
The Indiana Jones star has struggled with addiction for some time, first attending AA meetings with his father as a child. As an adult, he was arrested in 2007 for “intoxicated” behavior and was nabbed again on a drunk driving charge in 2008 following an early-morning car crash in Los Angeles. Though he later claimed the latter experience was “eye-opening and terrifying,” LeBeouf continued causing headlines in 2011 when he was involved in a violent altercation with another patron at the Mad Bull’s Tavern in Sherman Oaks, Calif., which resulted in the actor being punched in the face and arrested.
