Prescription Drug Take-Back Day

This October 22nd is the next National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day, which takes place twice a year across the US.

rx_takebackIn my recent article The Opioid Epidemic, How Parents Can Help: We Keep Our Guns in a Gun Safe and Our Opioids in a Kitchen Drawer I discussed how, for adolescents, a significant point of access to narcotic pain medication is leftover pills from a prior prescription. I suggested how we can protect our children by safely disposing of old prescription medications, and talking to them about why we do.

This October 22nd is the next National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day, which takes place twice a year across the US. According to the DEA website, this initiative “aims to provide a safe, convenient, and responsible means of disposing of prescription drugs, while also educating the general public about the potential for abuse of medications.” This is a fantastic initiative and I encourage you all to get involved.
