Possible Link Between Texting, Teen Alcohol Abuse

December 20, 2011 (WLS) — It may seem that teenagers waste a lot of time texting, but new research finds that texting may be a coping mechanism for some teens fighting an alcohol problem.

 

A study online in Alcoholism: Clinical and Experimental Research found that helping teens track their own drinking by texting helped reduce their alcohol consumption.

 

After three months, those who set goals via texting had fewer heavy-drinking days in the previous month and about two fewer drinks per day.
