The Oscar-winning actress flew to Georgia to attend Saturday’s ceremony and shocked attendees with a ‘bizarre’ speech.

Julia Roberts reportedly delivered a eulogy for her half-sister Nancy Motes that onlookers described as “harsh” and “bizarre.” Motes died last February from a drug overdose, at the age of 37.

Sources claim the actress used the funeral service to vent anger at Motes, who had gone to media outlets with details of their strained relationship. Roberts allegedly told those in attendance during her brief speech that she “admired Nancy for what she did.” A source at the service reported that Roberts claimed her sister “took control and ended her pain when she had no other tools to cope with it.” Meanwhile, Motes’ fiancé, John Dilbeck, expressed outrage that he wasn’t invited to the funeral and said that Motes wouldn’t have wanted Roberts to attend.

Roberts spoke for the first time last month about the “heartbreak” she experienced following the overdose death of Motes. “You don’t want anything bad to happen to anyone, but there are so many tragic, painful, inexplicable things in the world,” she said. “But (with) any situation of challenge and despair, we must find a way, as a family. It’s so hard to formulate a sentence about it outside the weepy huddle of my family.”

In an interview mere months before her death, Motes claimed she had gotten gastric bypass surgery last summer in part because she hoped it would help repair her relationship with Roberts. She weighed up to 300 pounds at one point and was reportedly teased about her size by the actress. “When I was in high school and she was an adult, she would just let me know that I was definitely overweight,” she said. “It just makes me feel incredibly hurt and very sad.”

She also slammed Roberts on Twitter several times in the weeks leading up to the overdose. “Just so you all know America’s Sweetheart is a BITCH!
