Ex-drug addict and university drop-out wins World Series of Poker, walking away with $8.53million

Greg Merson’s success was understandably emotional for him, having battled back from a crippling drug addiction just a year earlier.

It was the 24-year-old’s final push in his battle to become clean from adderall and oxycontin, having already beaten a cocaine habit.

Had he not, Greg, from Washington, told the Las Vegas Sun, ‘I could possibly not be alive right now, and that’s no exaggeration.’

‘I never want to do any of that ever, literally ever,’ he said, adding that he is also tee-total.

Speaking to the Baltimore Sun before the mammoth game began, Merson described how poker saved his life.

‘I don’t know where I’d be, if I’d even be alive, if I didn’t have this passion,’ he said. Read More…
