The former child star wrote about her struggle with addiction on the website Lil’ Mamas.

Curly Sue actress Alisan Porter revealed her alcoholism in a surprising blog post on the Lil’ Mamas website and simultaneously celebrated coming up on seven years of sobriety.

The former child star declined to go into the graphic specifics of her alcoholism, but confirmed that she has been sober since Oct. 28, 2007 and the catalyst to do so came while she was living in New York City. “Bet you didn’t see that one coming. Or, because you know that I’m a former child star, you totally did,” she wrote. “I was miserable and overwhelmed with life. I was heartbroken and realizing that what had always worked for me in the past was NOT working at all. Not even a little bit.”

After checking into an inpatient rehab facility days later, she diligently began to work the steps, attend meetings regularly, and found a sponsor. She married longtime boyfriend Brian Autenreith in 2012 and the pair now have two children together. Porter acknowledged that “growing pains were inevitable” but said she felt compelled to continue with her sobriety because “unlike my old ways, this way was working.” Article Link…
